Pichon's first studio recording of the John Passion after a decade performing it on tour — Prégardien as Evangelist, Montague Rendall as Christus, and a full operatic-scale solo line-up around the Pygmalion choir and orchestra.

Pichon brings to the John Passion the same operatic ear he turned on Bach motets and the Magnificat for HM — a reading that takes the chorale architecture as bones to be coloured rather than as terminal cadences. Prégardien’s Evangelist is by now a generational reference.
